about

This song takes place in a Texas border town, minutes before a sand storm sweeps through. The streets are empty and the doors and windows are sealed shut. The only people who haven't run inside to hide are the two lovers in the song, oblivious to the impending storm outside because they are so completely absorbed in their lust for each other. The storm raging between their bodies. Their passion is all-consuming and they regret nothing. Let it all burn.

Border town. The streets empty, houses completely shuttered. The doors and windows are sealed against the approaching storm. The air is still and rank. The ozone. Sounds are muffled. Only the distant bass rumble of the storm can be heard.

The sky in the distance has darkened, reddened. The sands are coming.

At the center of town stands a couple. They more than embrace, they clutch desperately at each other. The empty square revolves upon them like a wheel upon its axis. The world around them doesn’t exist. The storm is contained between them. They are consumed.

lyrics

Whenever I’m talking to you
My ears just hum
A gasoline fire gets lit in my mind
When you move your tongue
And I get consumed
I don’t seem to learn
Yes, I’m fuel to burn

Hard came my breath as it burned in my chest
Oh that devil desire
The walls all collapse and we breathe our last gasp
As your dress catches fire
And I get consumed
I don’t seem to learn
Yes, I’m fuel to burn

The moon turns its face and hides in the night
So bright is our light
The sun it grows cold, a cinder, an ash
We burn hotter than that
We burn hotter than that

Gather the wood in the clearing
Pile it high
A towering plume as I drink your perfume
And you light the pyre
And we get consumed
There’s nothing to learn
We’re just fuel to burn
